Fashion history of India

India contains a large part of Sub-continent. The early period of Indian history tell us that early Indian were not familiar with the art of sewing. They use long pieces of cloth to cover their bodies. Their dresses like Dhoti, Sari, Turban reflects that Indian were unfamiliar with sewing. A scholar Forbes Watson state that, " the art of sewing came to India only with the coming of Muslims".
 

Women of India were ware sari, and ware dhoti to cover their bottom body part, simply they are not stitched garments. Indian women use stanapatta and breast bands which are fastened with knot at their backs. These are also not stitched. Indian women use plants like Hina to decorate their palms.

With arrival f Muslims to India, many new tradition were emerged for example Muslims bring the tradition of Kurta Shalwar with them. Women wore Kurta Shalwar with dupatta or orhni.  The tradition of T urbane was last long for the 19 century.

India is a combination of different nations. Its cloth had the influence of all the nations such as Mongolians, Aryans, Hindus, Muslims. After the British ruler their happened a great change in the public of India. In early  60's film industry has developed allot in India which give a rise to fashion industry in India. But these trends and fashions were limited to only upper class of India.

At the mid of 60's fashion industry was started in India with the arrival of disco and hip hop in India . In 70's there was a revolution in film industry. The films were now colored. This raised the keenness of fashion in India.

Fashion history of India

The change in fashion industry in India take decades. It was not happened in one night. In early 90's some young and creative designer's come forward and they opened their stores in different cities. They were the pioneers of fashion industry in India.

21st century

At the start of this century fashion industry in India developed a lot. This was difficult to differentiate between 90's and 21st century's fashion because their was not a specific style there were significantly repeating styles of 40's and 50's likewise 60's and 80's. Though the sense of fashion was developed in public of India. The connection to modern world had teached India fashion industry a lot. The international designer's are source of inspiration to the Indian fashion designer's.

 

Manish was a world renowned India fashion designer had participated in Paris fashion week. Indian fashion industry is stepping out in world with a mentionable speed. Fashion shows are held all over the country to develop public scene about fashion.

Now India is providing a great source of fashion and creation to the world fashion industry. Designer's from Western world are seeking for new sharped talents in India who can indulge both India and Western fashion with each other perfectly. Perhaps India fashion industry has to face heavy challenges.

 

Fashion shows held in Bombay. New young and fresh models displaying the creative designs of Indian designers. The editors of famous magazines like VOGUE cover these shows. Recently a fashion week was held from 3rd to 7th August. Wills life style Indian fashion week spring summer 2013 was from August 08, 2013 to August 12, 2013. The cat walkers of this show was Anamilka Khanna, JJ Valaya, Sabyasachi Mukherjee, and many others.
